O, Canada

I teach a Ko-ni (11th grade) class that studies the culture of various English-speaking countries. To start our unit on Canada, I played the song Oh, Canada by a band called Five Iron Frenzy. The students had a copy of the lyrics and they circled words or phrases they did not understand. This song was their introduction to words like "lumberjack" and "mounties." One line from the song asks, "Did we say that William Shatner is a native citizen?" I tried to explain to the students who William Shatner was and why he was famous. Later when I was correcting their quiz on Canada, I laughed out loud. This was the first question:

________________ is the name of one native people group in Canada.

One of my students filled in the blank with the answer William Shatner.
