National Healthcare

My prescription will run out the end of this month, so I finally had to go to a doctor here in Japan. One of the Japanese teachers from school called a nearby hospital to try and make an appointment for me. They didn't have an endocrinologist, so I ended up having to go to a private clinic in Korura. To my surprise, the doctor spoke English. I met with the doctor, had three blood tests done (I got the results back in an hour!), a sonogram (no tumors), and three months worth of medicine. Since I have Japanese national insurance, guess how much it cost me? $67!!! Can you believe it!?! That wouldn't even cover the cost of one blood test at home. Wow! I'm glad I'm living in Japan.
