This guy lives in a corner at the high school where I work. He is the biggest spider I have ever seen "out in the wild." Seriously, he belongs in a zoo or maybe pet shop.
Thanks to some fireworks I inherited from another foreign teacher and an Independence Day themed box from Sarah (I can't believe they didn't confiscate the sparklers at customs), we celebrated in style this year. We ordered pizza and let fireworks off on the roof of the A building. The best part is we didn't get in trouble.
For my third picture, I thought I'd share a little Engrish with you. This the cover of the menu for a Korean restaurant I ate at with Ruthie and Shinataro. No, actual glands were surprisingly not the menu.
Finally, let us all take a moment to remeber my gas hot water heater. It died this week after over 20 years of service. It had not been doing well since I arrived in Japan. It is survived by the old tub I have never used and a small towel rack.
Instead of having a large hot water heater for the building, there is a small gas heater in each apartment's bathroom. So when you want to take a shower you have to turn on the gas and light the pilot light. Mine is broken though, so I am probably looking at a good month of ice cold showers until they fix it.

That spider may be bigger than both of my kids combined. Truly awful.
