Chofu

Today I went with Linda and Stephanie (my neighbors who are professors at Baiko University) to Chofu. Chofu is technically part of Shimonoseki, but it's about twenty minutes from where we live in Hatabu. These are the highlights of the day. Check out the "More photos of Japan" link if you want to see additional pictures from the day.

Chofu Tei-in
Chofu garden used to be the Samurai house of Nishi Yukinaga who was the Vice Leader of the Choshu-clan. The park is 7.66 acres and is divided four sections: Shoin, Chaya, Azumaya, and Kaiyushiki. Shoin is the old residence of samurai and court nobles. It was used as a living room and study. Chaya is the teahouse. Azumaya is the lounge area of the garden with a small hut. Kaiyushiki is the large Japanese garden.

Throughout Chofu are old walls from Samurai residences. It is a beautiful walk. After visiting a shrine and Kozanji temple, we ended the day with crème brûlée and coffee at a tea house. We saw this little girl in front of an antique kimono shop.
